AHOSKIE – While the time and place may be different from pre-COVID events, the main focus of Relay for Life remains unchanged…to celebrate cancer survivors, remember those who lost the battle, and raise money in an effort to fight back against the disease.

The 2023 Relay For Life of Hertford-Gates counties will be held from 4:30-8:30 p.m. on Friday, April 21 at the Ahoskie Creek Amphitheater.

Registration is already underway at www.relayforlife.org/hertfordgatesnc or by calling, toll-free, 1-800-227-2345.

The four-hour, single day event will feature survivor activities, games, food trucks, and a luminaria ceremony. Food trucks already lined up for the event include Get Your Grug On, Owl Feed You, Grace’s Grille, BBs Tropical Treats, and H&H Catering.

There are several levels of sponsorships, beginning with the $10,000 Presenting Sponsor. Others include Platinum ($7,500), Gold ($5,000), Silver ($2,500), Bronze ($1,000), and Signature ($500).

The Luminaria Ceremony is the soul of Relay For Life where those whose lives have been touched by cance are remembered.

During the Luminaria Ceremony, candles are placed in luminaria bags and torches are lit which are dedicated in Honor of a cancer survivor or in Memory of a loved one lost from cancer.

There are several ways to honor or memorialize an individual impacted by cancer. White luminaria bags are $10 each or three for $25. Gold bags are $25 each. A Flame of Hope (which includes a photo of the person honored/memorialize) is $100.

Send that information, along with your name and address, with a check made payable to the American Cancer Society, and mail to Angie Plaunty, 226 Jernigan Swamp Road, Ahoskie, NC 27910.
