Virginia fugitive arrested

GATESVILLE – The Gates County Sheriff’s Office has taken a fugitive from Virginia into custody.
Sheriff Ray Campbell said the Suffolk, Virginia Police Department contacted the Gates County Sheriff’s Office last week regarding a wanted person.
Khamani Saunders was wanted out of Suffolk for two counts each of possession of stolen property with the intent to sell and grand larceny as well as one count each of conspiracy to commit grand larceny, entering a building at night with the intent to commit grand larceny, conspiracy to sell stolen property, and conspiracy to enter a building at night to commit larceny.
“[On the night of June 19], our deputies successfully located Saunders and took him into custody without issue,” Campbell said on the Gates County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
After being served with a fugitive warrant, Campbell said that Saunders was held on a $500,000 secured bond.
Subsequently, Saunders was transported to Albemarle District Jail in Elizabeth City where he awaits to be extradited back to Virginia.
