Egg Incubation in Mrs. Kittrell’s Class
In a few more days we hope to have little baby chicks! We are going to try to see if we can breed them to get different colored eggs.
We started incubating on Wednesday, March 19 and the hopeful hatch day is April 9. Most of all of the chicks are looking good right now, we hope that they will be healthy.
I will be back with more information about the progress of the chicks!

Spring Break Polls!
Last week, our Baron Beat Staff sent out a Google Form to our student body here at GCHS asking the students if they intend to do a variety of different activities over spring break. Some of the activities listed were traveling, working, relaxing, reading, completing missing schoolwork, etc.
It seems that most students are planning to travel. We had 12 out of 38 responses indicating that students would travel. Another 5 answered saying that they would visit family. On the other hand, only one student responded saying that they were going to swim.
We hope that everyone has a great spring break!

Theatre Classes
Each semester, our theatre teacher (Mr. Shafer) goes through a lot of trouble to direct and put on performances (performed by his theatre students and/or Playmakers students) for our community to come and enjoy, free of charge.
This semester, there are intentions for two different performances by his high school classes, and one performance (split into 3 different acts) done by the Playmakers.
While Mr. Shafer does in fact teach Theatre at CMS, we have not heard any news as to if he intends on putting on a show with the middle schoolers.
More details on the performance titles and dates will be published soon. We hope to see you there!

Baron Breakout Feature!
This week’s BBO Feature ties into current events here at GCHS.
Mrs. Carney Rountree (our Health Sciences and Nursing Fundamentals teacher/HOSA Sponsor) hosts a HOSA and Nursing Fundamentals BBO. HOSA BBO is used to give students in HOSA time to study and prepare for their HOSA Competitions. This is useful because this week our HOSA Students are heading to Greensboro NC to participate in the HOSA Convention. We wish them all luck as they go on their journey!
The Nursing Fundamentals BBO is a study hall for Mrs. Rountree’s Nursing Fundamentals students. The HOSA BBO has about 20-25 student attendees, while the Nursing Fundamentals BBO only has 9. These Baron Breakouts add to the education of our students by giving them time during school to prepare for upcoming events and allowing them to study if they don’t have time outside of school. Thank you Mrs. Rountree!

My 9th Grade Experience
The current high school experience is thrilling and challenging, but what if we went deeper than that?
Exploring the features of high school as a freshman is one of the most important things that you will ever do. This is the insight of my 9th grade experience.
The first thing every 9th grader will do is meet their teachers and adjust to how they teach and establish a connection with them. If you don’t establish a connection with your teacher, learning the fundamentals of your class with them may be slightly harder. Adjusting to how they teach can help the student answer problems better and be able to understand the teaching better overall!
But educational work isn’t the only thing interesting about being a 9th grader. The drama is also a nearly always progressing factor in any high schooler’s life. There are different types of drama though, the good and bad. Good drama is always the most recurring type of drama. It is always accompanied by a laugh and a cheerful smile. However, bad drama is where it may halt their learning. Fights between students or relationship problems are only two out of so many on the list; therefore, it is one of the many opposing but interesting factors about being in high school.
The upcoming 8th graders moving up to 9th grade get to experience a new world than they did in middle school; they will be able to meet and experience all the great things we have.
In the 9th grade you also get to meet and socialize with new people and scale more grades and learn more than ever before!
In 9th grade you will be given choices. The choices you make will determine your experience. Making a wise choice is essential in the 9th grade. The electives and new classes are really helpful to your growth as a person and a student. They can help you get to the standings you need to be to get a job or prepare yourself for college!
There is really only one question that matters, though: will everybody be able to move forward and grow? With the teachers we have in high school, they definitely will! The 10th, 11th and 12th grades are only stepping stones to the greatness ahead, but first, you have to go through the 9th grade.
