RALEIGH – Judicial District 1 will see a familiar face in a new place.

On March 20, Governor Josh Stein appointed Jennifer Wells as a District Court Judge for Judicial District 1, which serves Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Pasquotank, and Perquimans counties.

Wells is filling the vacancy created after Judge Edgar Barnes retired after 28 years of service.

Wells, who resides in Kitty Hawk, most recently served as an Assistant Public Defender with the Office of the First Judicial District Public Defender. She has worked in that capacity since 2014.

Wells received her B.A. from Tulane University and her J.D. from Campbell University School of Law.
