GATESVILLE – A fugitive wanted for grand larceny by the Commonwealth of Virginia has been arrested in Gates County for possession of a stolen vehicle and other charges.
Gates County Sheriff Ray Campbell reports that Christopher Widen was arrested on March 19.
Widen is charged with felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle, felony purchase/sell motor vehicle parts with altered ID, felony alter/destroy stolen motor vehicle parts, and felony altering serial numbers.
Those charges carried a $27,500 secured bond. Widen is also held without bond on the fugitive warrant out of Virginia.
Campbell said just recently the Gates County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the North Carolina DMV License and Theft Bureau, began an investigation into the possession of stolen motor vehicles and other goods.
“We extend our thanks to the Inspectors of the NCDMV License and Theft Bureau for their assistance in this multi-week investigation,” Campbell said.
He added that further charges are pending.
