Due to numerous weather-related delays and school closures this year, Gates County Public Schools have nearly exhausted all of its banked instructional hours.

In order to recover lost time and account for any potential weather disruptions moving forward, school officials need to make some important updates to the current school calendar.

As a result, Gates County Schools will be adjusting the following dates:

Friday, March 14: The scheduled Teacher Workday will now be a student day, with an early release at 1 p.m.

Thursday, April 17: The scheduled Teacher Workday will also be a student day, with an early release at 1 p.m.

School officials say these two changes will add a total of eight additional hours of instructional time, which should help the district meet its educational requirements for the remainder of the school year without the need to add extra days or extend the school day.
