GATESVILLE – Sheriff Ray Campbell is concerned about the growing number of vapes and other items that have been seized from Gates County students during the first semester of the current school year.

He said those items are not only showing up at the high school and the middle school, but at the local elementary schools as well.

Campbell advises that some of the vapes contain THC, the psychoactive compound in cannabis.

“Parents, please take the time to talk with your children about the dangers of nicotine and illicit substances. Possession of these items is not only a school policy violation, but a criminal offense. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to our office or our amazing set of School Resource Officers for any help we can offer,” Campbell said.
