GATESVILLE – The Gates County Board of Education has a new face.
At their Sept. 16 meeting, Terri Riddick was sworn in to fill the vacant seat left by the resignation of Amanda Heimbecker. The appointment came by a unanimous vote of the board.
As a life-long resident of Gates County, Riddick brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the board, having 20 years of teaching experience at College of the Albemarle and serving on various boards in the past.
Her experience in higher education is expected to be invaluable as the board navigates the day-to-day operations of the school system.
“We are thrilled to welcome Mrs. Riddick to the board,” said Ray Felton, Board of Education Vice Chair. “Her dedication to education and the understanding of the needs of our community will be a tremendous asset as we work to ensure the success of all of our students.”
Riddick will serve the remainder of Heimbecker’s term, which is set to expire in November 2024. Riddick was poised to take that seat in December after defeating Heimbecker in the March Primary.
Riddick expressed her enthusiasm for the opportunity to serve the community.
“I am honored to be appointed to this position,” she said. “I am committed to working collaboratively with the board and community to provide our students the best possible education.”
