A lifelong resident of Gates County, he was born on May 14, 1962, and was the son of the late Robert Greene Eure and Mary Ellen Felton Eure.

Robert Earl was a former employee of Gatesville Family Foods. Many will remember him for his hard work at the store, whether he was bagging groceries, sweeping floors, stocking shelves, carrying customer’s purchases to their cars, or just saying goodbye with his familiar “thank you” and “have a nice day.”

He was a member of Eure Christian Church, and loved the outdoors, gardening, and animals.

Surviving are his sisters, Carolyn Powell (husband, Ed) of Carrsville, VA, and Rita Rountree (husband, J.D., deceased) and Jo Ann Powell (husband, Jeff, deceased), both of Eure; four nephews, Brian Powell (wife, Rachel), Dr. Jamie Powell (wife, Christina), Aaron Rountree, and Josh Powell (wife, Kelly); a niece, Jennifer Prince (husband, Aaron); and great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and many friends and extended family members.

Graveside services will be held Friday, May 3rd, at 11:00 a.m. on the family plot at Eure Christian Church and will be conducted by Pastor Wade Bennett. Friends may visit with the family in the social hall immediately following the service, or all other times at Rita’s home, 549 Taylor Mill Road, Eure.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Eure Christian Church, 872 NC Highway 137, or the Eure Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 551, both in Eure, NC 27935, or to the Gates County Rescue & EMS, 16 Highway 158 East, Gatesville, NC 27938.

The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the staff of Gates House for the superb and compassionate care, and to Liberty Hospice for the comfort given, to Robert Earl during his long residency there and in the recent period of declining health.
