Pocket Lab Experiments

This year earth science students are taking their experiments to the next level with PocketLab. Earth Science Students are using the PocketLab Thermo Sensors to determine the effect of solar energy on the temperature of water, concrete, exposed soil and grass-covered soil over time.

PocketLab sensors graph the data in real-time so that the students can visually see the temperature trends. Students pulled specific data points from the graphs to compare the results numerically.

The PocketLab Thermo Sensors were purchased with a GearUp grant. We appreciate the GearUp grant and can’t wait to be in a class using the PocketLab Sensors.

End of the year excitement

As the year is coming to an end, everyone is restless for summer and for special occasions.

May is a very important month for seniors, May 2nd is a mandatory meeting and on the 22nd of May will be the senior walk.

The seniors and juniors are preparing for this year’s Evening Under the Stars themed prom on May 4.

Seniors are preparing for Decision Day on May 1st where there will be games, food, music, and gifts.

Make sure students are checking their emails frequently for updates on upcoming events.

Everyone is excited for the Gates County Rodeo happening May 10-11. The GCHS NNDCC Color Guard will be presenting colors at the rodeo this year.

We’re sad that the year is ending but excited for what’s to come. Good luck seniors and Go Barons!

FFA Competition

At our FFA competition, the horticulture team placed first place overall. The team consisted of Alyssa Harris, Mason Williams, Hailey Bauer, and Lillie Short.

The Forestry team placed second. The team consisted of Brody Hofler, Grant Hudgins, John Knapp, and Daniel Gallagher.

The Agricultural Mechanics team placed first overall. The team consisted of Brier Vann, Carson Stallings, Emma Sheets, and Thomas Pierce. Mekhi Bond placed first in Fruit and Vegetable Production. Their hard work paid off.

Good job to them and our teachers, Anne Brinkley and Don White.

Warm weather and sunny days!

With the heightened temperatures recently (and lots of pollen), we want to advise any of you out there who might be participating in outdoor activities to be wary of the effects of dehydration and heat exhaustion.

We express caution in wearing multiple layers and winter clothing. It’s great to get outside and get some vitamin D but to do so with caution. You can wear sunscreen to protect your skin from UV radiation, which can cause multiple different skin conditions and problems.

Again, we advise everyone to take precautions against too much sun exposure or dehydration. Go Barons!
