GATESVILLE – A local man remains behind bars in the Albemarle District Jail following his court case here Monday (Jan. 8).

Allen Emigh stands charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, assault on a female, common law robbery, felony flee to elude arrest, hit and run causing property damage, leaving the scene of an accident, injury to personal property, reckless driving to endanger, making a harassing phone call, and interfering with 911 communication.

His court case on Monday, heard by Judge Jeffrey Moreland, was continued.

On Dec. 19, Gates County deputies responded to a domestic disturbance in the area of Muddy Cross Road and NC Highway 37 near Hobbsville. There, deputies came in contact with a female victim that advised she had been assaulted and robbed by Emigh.

Deputies located Emigh in the area of Joppa Road and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The pursuit continued through neighboring counties and concluded in the area of Sandy Road in Perquimans County where Emigh exited his vehicle and fled on foot before being chased down and arrested by the deputies.

“This started out as a domestic situation and elevated from there,” Gates County Sheriff Ray Campbell said this week. “While operating a motor vehicle, he chased down the female victim in her car, ramming it from behind. He stole her cell phone and we were able to track the phone’s signal and that’s when our pursuit began.”

Campbell added that once the pursuit ended, deputies searched Emigh’s vehicle, finding a loaded rifle.
