USS Wisconsin

The USS Wisconsin is a battleship that fought for the United States Navy in the 1940s.

This past week the cadets of Chief Howards NNDCC at Gates County High School had the chance to go aboard the USS Wisconsin for the third year in a row. This time the cadets have the special opportunity to spend the night in the berthings (sleeping quarters) of the ship.

The cadets explored the downtown city of Norfolk as well as the museum and ship of the USS Wisconsin.

Cadets ate in the mess decks of the ship and were accompanied by Camden High School’s Coast Guard cadets.

Cadets spent their downtime by playing board games and cards with one another.

Cadets will surely come to school Monday with stories upon stories of their night on the USS Wisconsin.

My favorite parts of Thanksgiving

My favorite parts of Thanksgiving are seeing my family and eating good food, of course, but my most favorite part is definitely cooking with my mom. I love to see how much love and energy she puts into her dishes. She gets this glow about her on Thanksgiving. She looks so happy while she’s cooking.

I love when she smiles her big beautiful smile while watching her favorite part of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, The Radio City Rockettes, and how she jumps around screaming, “It’s Santa!!” at the very end. Those moments are some of my favorite memories.

It means a lot to me when she asks if I want to cook with her. I get right to work, right there beside my momma. It means more to me than she even knows. I love you mom, thank you for everything you do for me.

I also want to say thank you to all mothers that do so much. We appreciate you and everything you do. I don’t know how you do it, but I know it isn’t easy.

Have a great Thanksgiving, and I hope you eat all the food your heart desires! 🙂
