ELIZABETH CITY – The Salvation Army of the Albemarle Region serving Pasquotank, Camden, Perquimans, Chowan, Gates, Hertford, Currituck and Dare counties is registering children for its annual Angel Tree program.
The registration period ends Oct. 31.
The Angel Tree program, which provides new clothing and toys for children from low-income families, is for youngsters ages 12 and under.
To register, provide the following documents: ID for all adults, a birth certificate or Medicaid Card (Guardianship) for all children, proof of income, and expenses for everyone in the household. Each family registered for the program is screened through a process that helps verify their needs.
Once a child has been registered as an “Angel,” The Salvation Army makes a promise to provide Christmas for that child. The “Angels” are placed around town for generous individuals, companies, churches, and other organizations to purchase gifts. Through the Angel Tree program, thousands of children will find gifts waiting under their Christmas trees.
Angel Trees will be around the community starting Nov. 4. On each tree are printed angels that have the name, age, and gift suggestions for a child “angel” registered in the program. Each angel is ready for members of the community to “adopt” (purchase gifts) for Christmas.
Businesses and community organizations that would like to adopt angels or volunteer for the program can call Major Angela Hughes at 252-338-4129.
