GATES – The Gates Ruritan Club held its first Litter Pickup Day on Saturday, Sept. 30.

The Project Manager was Brown Smith and he conducted a briefing that morning. The Ruritan members who participated agreed to abide by the rules that had been established and each were given a yellow reflective vest to wear at all times, large orange trash bags, and a litter collection device.

The participants were reminded to always face oncoming traffic while picking up the road litter. Also they were not to pick up anything that looked to be unsafe.

Appropriate documents had been completed and sent to cover the club’s general liability requirements for this community service event

Thanks go to the following Ruritan members who participated in this year’s litter pick-up event: Brown Smith, Aaron Brown, Don Gregory, J. B. Freeman, Cody Brinkley and Tracy Smith. They collected 10 trash bags of litter along Gates School Road, Water Plant Road, and Highway 37.
