SUNBURY, NC – Kenneth Ray “Kenny” Casper, 69, of 303 Folly Road, Sunbury, died Tuesday, July 25, 2023 in his home where he was cared for by his family.

Mr. Casper was born in Chowan County on February 28, 1954, and was the son of the late James Robert “Jimmy” and Mary Ellen Parks Casper.

Retired from the North Carolina Department of Corrections, he worked at the Pasquotank Correctional Institute in Elizabeth City. He was a member of Eureka Baptist Church in Corapeake where he had served as a Deacon, a Sunday School teacher, the Royal Ambassadors Leader, and with the Men’s Brotherhood, and was a past member of the Sunbury Ruritan Club.

Surviving is his wife of nearly 48 years, Paula Rountree Casper; their sons, Travis Casper (wife, Brooke) of Clayton, and Brett Casper and Jonathan Casper (wife, Jordan), both of Sunbury; and four grandchildren, Haley, Hattie, Raleigh and Graham. Also surviving is his brother, Terry Casper of Wanchese.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 29, at 4:00 p.m. in Eureka Baptist Church and will be conducted by his longtime friend, The Rev. Burt Pearce. Friends are invited to visit with the family in the fellowship hall immediately following the service, or all other times at the residence. A private burial will be in the church cemetery earlier in the day.
