LEWISTON WOODVILLE – Two youngsters, ages 13 and 11, were tragically killed in a head-on accident near here Sunday afternoon.

According to State Highway Patrol Trooper E. Lujan, charges are pending against Brandon Scott Hawks of Eure, the driver of the vehicle in which the young males were passengers. He added that Hawks is the father of the victims.

Lujan said the accident occurred around 1 p.m. on NC 11 just north of Lewiston Woodville. There, Hawks was operating a 2001 Nissan passenger car, traveling northbound.

“The driver of the Nissan failed to reduce speed when a vehicle in front of that driver was making a right-hand turn into a public driveway,” Lujan told the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald. “To avoid colliding with the vehicle making the turn, the driver of the Nissan swerved his vehicle to the left, crossing the center line at which time his vehicle struck a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee head on.”

Lujan said the Jeep, traveling southbound on NC 11, was driven by Kimberly Elizabeth Adams of Kinston. Adams and her passengers – her husband and their two children – were transported to ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie where they were treated and released.

The Trooper added that Hawks was airlifted from the scene to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville. The extent of his injuries is not known.
