AHOSKIE – Roanoke Cooperative has awarded Aubrey Ashley, age 11 of Gatesville, the 2023 Wolfpack Women’s Basketball Camp scholarship to NC State University.

Aubrey Ashley

Ashley resides in Gatesville and is a rising 5th grader at Hertford Elementary School. She will join other campers from across North Carolina this summer to learn fundamental basketball skills and teamwork. Camp attendees also meet other talented players, and even get to pose with N.C. State women’s basketball coach Wes Moore for a photo.

The basketball camp scholarship program is an expression of Roanoke Cooperative’s commitment to its local community.

Ashley is committed to sports of all kinds. Her activities include playing travel softball for Carolina Shockwave, travel volleyball for Albemarle Regional Volleyball Club, and she plays volleyball, basketball, and softball for the Perquimans Recreation Department. She was a member of the NC Tarheel League State Champion last summer.

She is also active in her community, regularly participating in youth programs at Middle Swamp Baptist church, attending Camp Cale each summer, and helping out with community fundraisers throughout the year. In her spare time, she loves making crafts, cooking, and baking with her grandmother.

Ashley said she is excited to attend the camp “to learn new skills, learn to play as a team with new teammates and receive coaching from experienced coaches.

“The camp will also give me the opportunity to meet girls from across our state who love sports like I do,” Ashley added. “The sport of basketball means a lot to me. It is a game in which you have to work as a team, learn from your mistakes, hustle, and give 100 percent effort with every possession or defensive play. You have to trust your teammates and coaches. Attending this camp means meeting other girls my age who love the sport like I do.”
