‘Barons head to state playoffs

GATESVILLE – Head coach Jacob Harrell and his Gates County High School Red Barons have earned a top-10 seed in the eastern bracket of the 2023 NCHSAA Class 1A Baseball Tournament.
GCHS, 15-6 overall and champions of the Four Rivers Conference, are seeded #8 in the field of 32 teams.
The ‘Barons were scheduled to host #25 Vance Charter School in Tuesday’s (May 9) opening round. A win by GCHS in that game would advance them to Friday’s (May 12) second round where they would host the winner of #24 Ocracoke vs. #9 North Moore.
Gates County’s softball team (11-10 overall) also made the NCHSAA state playoffs. They were scheduled to travel to Vance County High School on Tuesday for a first-round game.
