Turkey Shoot

SUNBURY – VFW Post 7312 will host a Turkey Shoot at 7 p.m. on every Friday of the month through Dec. 23. Concessions will be available.

The Post is located on US 158 west of Sunbury. Call 252-339-7338 for more information.

 

Fall Festival

GATES – Reynoldson Baptist Church will host a Community Fall Festival from 4:30-7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5. The event will feature food, games, hayrides, face painting, pumpkin painting, a dessert walk, and much more. This event is free and all are welcomed.

 

Rabies Clinic

TYNER – A rabies clinic will be held from 10 am – 1 pm on Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Tri-County Animal Shelter (138 Icaria Road, Tyner).

Rabies vaccinations are $10 each (cash only; please have exact amount). Please remain in your car with your pet; an attendant will assist you.

VFW Breakfast

SUNBURY — The VFW Auxiliary at Post 7312 (located on US 158 west of Sunbury) offers its monthly breakfast at 7 a.m. on the first Saturday of each month. The all-you-can-eat breakfast includes sausage and gravy with biscuits along with sausage and pancakes.

 

DSS Board Meeting

GATESVILLE – The Gates County Department of Social Services Board meeting scheduled for Nov. 28 has been rescheduled at 9 a.m. on Nov. 14.

 

Blood Drive

GATESVILLE – The American Red Cross will conduct a blood drive from 12:30 – 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at the Gates County Community Center.

 

NAACP meeting

The Gates County Branch of the NAACP meets the third Tuesday of each month. Meetings are currently being held by conference call. To obtain the link to the call, contact Sarah Montague at 252-357-2498 or email GCNAACP@gmail.com.

The branch is also seeking new members. Membership dues are $30 per year.

 

Commissioners meeting

GATESVILLE – The Gates County Board of Commissioners will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at the Historic Courthouse, 115 Court Street, Gatesville.

Citizens are welcome to attend the meeting but must follow social distancing protocols or can view the meeting through a link on the county’s website.

Thanksgiving Dinner

GATESVILLE – A free Thanksgiving to-go plate dinner will be held from 3-5 p.m. (while food lasts) on Saturday, Nov. 19 at the Gates County Community Center, 130 US Hwy 158, Gatesville.

 

DSS Board Meeting

GATESVILLE – Due to the Christmas holiday, the Gates County Department of Social Services Board meeting scheduled for Dec. 26 has been rescheduled at 9 a.m. on Dec. 12.

 

Volunteers needed

The Albemarle Commission Senior Nutrition Program needs volunteers to deliver meals to homebound clients in Gates County. The route takes approximately one hour to complete. You may deliver meals once a month or more often.
