Fried Chicken Dinner

GATES – The Gates Ruritan Club is sponsoring a fried chicken dinner from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29.

Plates, priced at $10 each, are available take-out only. Drive up to the Ruritan Building between Lane Farm Supply and the Gates Fire Department on Gates School Road.

Proceeds will fund scholarships for students attending college and to fund other community activities.

Joy & Tommy Byrum’s Food Truck – “Come Gitcha Some” – is preparing the food.

 

Trick-or-Treat

GATESVILLE – The Town of Gatesville will observe Halloween trick-or-treat from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 31 for children ages 12-and-under.

 

School Board Meets

GATESVILLE – The Gates County Board of Education will have its regular meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at Gatesville Elementary School, beginning with a closed session at 4 p.m. followed by an open session at 5 p.m.

NAACP meeting

The Gates County Branch of the NAACP meets the third Tuesday of each month. Meetings are currently being held by conference call. To obtain the link to the call, contact Sarah Montague at 252-357-2498 or email GCNAACP@gmail.com.

The branch is also seeking new members. Membership dues are $30 per year.

 

Turkey Shoot

SUNBURY – VFW Post 7312 will host a Turkey Shoot at 7 p.m. on every Friday of the month through Dec. 23. Concessions will be available.

The Post is located on US 158 west of Sunbury. Call 252-339-7338 for more information.

 

VFW Breakfast

SUNBURY — The VFW Auxiliary at Post 7312 (located on US 158 west of Sunbury) offers its monthly breakfast at 7 a.m. on the first Saturday of each month. The all-you-can-eat breakfast includes sausage and gravy with biscuits along with sausage and pancakes.

 

Veterans Day Service

GATESVILLE – Veterans Day Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11 in the old courthouse in Gatesville.

This year’s speaker will be Brigadier General Richard A. Harrison, Gates County High School Class of 1990.

The Gates County High School Navy ROTC Cadets will present the colors.

 

DSS Board Meeting

GATESVILLE – The Gates County Department of Social Services Board meeting scheduled for Nov. 28 has been rescheduled at 9 a.m. on Nov. 14.

 

Blood Drive

GATESVILLE – The American Red Cross will conduct a blood drive from 12:30 – 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at the Gates County Community Center.

 

DSS Board Meeting

GATESVILLE – Due to the Christmas holiday, the Gates County Department of Social Services Board meeting scheduled for Dec. 26 has been rescheduled at 9 a.m. on Dec. 12.

 

Volunteers needed

The Albemarle Commission Senior Nutrition Program needs volunteers to deliver meals to homebound clients in Gates County. The route takes approximately one hour to complete. You may deliver meals once a month or more often.
