Candidates Forum

GATESVILLE – The Gates County Democratic Party will sponsor a local and state candidates forum from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24 at the Merchant Millpond State Park Visitors Center Conference.

The forum is for local and state Democratic candidates whose name will appear on the ballot for the Nov. 8 general election

School Board meets

GATESVILLE – The Gates County Board of Education will meet in regular session on Monday, Oct. 3 at Gatesville Elementary School, beginning with a closed session at 5 p.m. and an open session at 6 p.m.

Flu Shots

EURE – Hall Ruritan Club, located at 99 Tinkham Road, will host a flu clinic, sponsored by CVS Pharmacy of Murfreesboro, from 10 am until 12 noon on Friday, Oct. 7.

 

Regional Conference

GATES – Abolish Abortion NC’s first ever regional conference is on Oct. 8 at Abundant Hope Baptist Church, 700 Willeyton Road, Gates.

RFL Yard Sale

EURE – A yard sale to benefit Hertford-Gates Relay for Life will be held from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 441 Taylor Mill Road, Eure. The event is sponsored by Metal Tech.

 

Plate Sale

EURE – Hall Ruritan Club will be selling ham and fried chicken plates from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct 14. $10 donation. Eat-in or take-out.

 

Slow Stitching Workshop

SUNBURY – Studio 32 in Sunbury will host a Slow Stitching workshop from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15. The cost is $20 per person and pre-registration is required by calling 252-339-1619.

All project materials will be provided by instructors Margaret Atkinson and Mona Rawls. Beverages and treats will also be provided.

Slow Stitching is the act of creating art with needle and thread. It does not require any sewing skills.

 

NAACP meeting

The Gates County Branch of the NAACP meets the third Tuesday of each month. Meetings are currently being held by conference call. To obtain the link to the call, contact Sarah Montague at 252-357-2498 or email GCNAACP@gmail.com.

The branch is also seeking new members. Membership dues are $30 per year.

 

Trick-or-Treat

GATESVILLE – The Town of Gatesville will observe Halloween trick-or-treat from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 31 for children ages 12-and-under.

 

Turkey Shoot

SUNBURY – VFW Post 7312 will host a Turkey Shoot at 7 p.m. on the second Friday of each month. Concessions will be available.

The Post is located on US 158 west of Sunbury. Call 252-339-7338 for more information.

 

VFW Breakfast

SUNBURY — The VFW Auxiliary at Post 7312 (located on US 158 west of Sunbury) offers its monthly breakfast at 7 a.m. on the first Saturday of each month. The all-you-can-eat breakfast includes sausage and gravy with biscuits along with sausage and pancakes.

 

Volunteers needed

The Albemarle Commission Senior Nutrition Program needs volunteers to deliver meals to homebound clients in Gates County. The route takes approximately one hour to complete. You may deliver meals once a month or more often.
