On Oct. 10, Gates County Cooperative Extension held their annual Farm Day Adventures, an event organized for local school children.

Second graders from Buckland, Gatesville, and T.S. Cooper Elementary Schools participated in hands-on field stops at local farms. Tour stops included a cotton gin, a cotton field, a soybean field, and a livestock display with chickens and rabbits.

The goal of Farm Day Adventures is to give Gates County children an opportunity to learn about food and fiber products that are grown right here in their county. Cooperative Extension Agents were stationed at each stop and taught the students about how cotton, soybeans, and livestock are an integral part of products that they eat, wear, and use every day. Being out in the field, the students get a new perspective on the everyday items that can be produced from Gates County crops.

Gates County Cooperative Extension would like to thank all of the farmers, county agents, and schools that helped make this day possible.
