Turkey shoot

EURE – Hall Ruritan Club will host a dinner and turkey shoot on Friday, Oct. 26.

Dinner will be a meal of barbecued chicken and all the trimmings beginning at 4 p.m. The meal is $8 per plate.

The turkey shoot follows at 6:30 p.m.

 

BBQ dinner

SUNBURY – The Sunbury Ruritan Club will host its annual homemade BBQ dinner from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27.

Tickets are $8 for a plate with BBQ, baked beans, coleslaw and a roll, or by the pound. The dinner will be held at the Sunbury Fire Dept. and will be take out only.

Sausage & Pancake supper

GATES – The Gates Ruritan Club is sponsoring their Sausage & Pancake supper from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27 in the Gates Community Building next to the Gates Fire Department.

There will also be a bake sale and a country ham raffle. Raffle tickets are $1 each or $2 for three tickets or $5 for eight tickets. Bring two nonperishable food items for GEMS and receive a free raffle ticket.

The proceeds from this event go toward the scholarship that is awarded to a senior at Gates County High School each year and for other community activities sponsored by the Gates Ruritan Club.

 

Health Fair

GATES – Stoney Branch Missionary Baptist Church will host a Health Fair from 8:30-11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27.

Various speakers will be on site to discuss topics such as high blood pressure, diabetes, breast cancer awareness, etc. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to have blood pressure and diabetes screenings. This will be a morning filled with knowledge that will help individuals to stay healthy.

 

Trunk or Treat

GATESVILLE – Gatesville Baptist Church will conduct Trunk or Treat from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31.

 

School Board meets

SUNBURY – The Gates County Board of Education will meet on Monday, Nov. 5 at T.S. Cooper Elementary School, beginning with a closed session at 3 p.m. to discuss confidential personnel matters, as allowed by North Carolina’s Open Meetings law, followed by an open session at 4 p.m.

 

Blood drive

GATESVILLE – The American Red Cross will conduct a blood drive from 12:30-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at the Gates County Community Center.

 

Yard sale

EURE – A yard sale to benefit Relay for Life will be held from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 441 Taylor Mill Road, Eure.

The event is sponsored by the Metal Tech Relay for Life team and all proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

Cheer competition

GATESVILLE – Gates County High School will host a cheerleading competition beginning at 12 noon on Saturday, Nov. 17 in the new gym.

Cheerleading squads from Camden County, Manteo, Perquimans County, John A. Holmes, and Washington County high schools will join with the host, GCHS, at this Albemarle Conference event.

 

Basketball sign up

GATESVILLE – Youth (ages 4-16 – boys; ages 10-12 – girls) basketball registration is underway at the Gates County Community Center. The cost is $40 per player.

Turkey shoot

SUNBURY – VFW Post 7312, located on US 158 west of Sunbury, is holding turkey shoot beginning at 7 p.m. each Friday until Dec. 21.
